Piracy in South Africa

South Africans’ struggle with certain ethical issues one of these being piracy. Piracy is the intentional and illegal distribution of intellectual property.

In 2016 TorrentFreak reported that South Africa was ranked 34th for piracy rates in the piracy monitoring group MUSO’s latest film and TV privacy insights reports for 2016. This rank shows us that South Africans’ do not care for laws or ethics when it come to getting TV series, movies and other media illegally.

My standing and thoughts about social media:

I do not enjoy social media as I see it as a waste of time depending on how you use it. Most information that we receive from people on social media means very little and does not help us much. It can be helpful for you to follow people that have the career you want to go into so that you can learn how to get to the same place.

I appreciate social media as a marketing tool that can spread information to large amounts of people quickly with little to no costs. This allows for unique opportunities to spread information or in my career inform people about a game whether that is the release date or more information about what the game is.

I way the risk and reward of social medias because they give you a large digital footprint of content which someone will always be able to find. This means that one ill intended and in the moment post can have huge future consequences on the person such as not getting a job because of a tweet from 5 years ago.
